This could be due to poor biomechanics.

What is ‘Biomechanics’?

Biomechanics is the study of motion. The study of biomechanics is important in determining what causes injuries and how we can prevent them re-occurring. It is important that we not only treat the SYMPTOMS, but also identify and address the CAUSE of an injury.

Foot biomechanics relates to the position of the foot and how that affects the structures above it, for example the ankle, knee, hip and lower back. Think of it like the foundations of a house – if they aren’t level then the walls and supporting structures will be compromised and may get damaged over time.

Over the next 12 weeks we will discuss common biomechanical injuries, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon irritation, shin pain, knee pain and hip pain. I will also give you some advice on managing different injuries, specific exercises and rehabilitation options.

Next week I’ll be talking about plantar fasciitis, also known as heel pain.
